Content guidelines
Inkwell welcomes every genre, including dark and difficult stories. These guidelines keep the site fair to authors and safe for readers.
Last updated September 26, 2026
Publish your own work
- Only post stories you wrote, or have permission to post.
- No plagiarism, and no reuploading or translating other people’s work without their permission.
- Fan fiction is welcome. Credit the original work, and don’t copy passages from it.
- If AI tools wrote a meaningful part of a story, say so in the synopsis or the author note.
Label mature content
- Set your story’s audience honestly, and mark it mature when it contains graphic violence, sexual content or other intense themes.
- Use tags for content readers may want to avoid, so they can choose what to read.
- Sexual content involving minors is never allowed, whatever the setting or claimed age.
Not allowed anywhere
- Harassment, threats, doxxing or targeting real people.
- Hate speech that attacks people for who they are.
- Content that promotes or gives instructions for real-world harm.
- Spam, scams, and misleading links or advertising.
Comments and reactions
- Critique the writing, not the writer. Be kind, even when a chapter isn’t for you.
- Mark spoilers as spoilers.
- Don’t spam chapters to promote your own story.
Reporting
If you find something that breaks these guidelines, use the Report option on the story, chapter or comment (in the ⋯ menu on a story page, at the end of a chapter, or under a comment), or contact us. Reports are anonymous to the author. We may hide content or suspend accounts that break these guidelines, as described in our Terms.
